During consultation, the skin is assessed for redness, sensitivity, barrier impairment, dehydration, inflammation, visible capillaries, current skincare use and potential triggers. The aim is to understand what may be contributing to the reactivity before introducing treatment. Management is usually focused on restoring and supporting the skin barrier, reducing unnecessary irritation and improving overall skin resilience. Depending on the skin’s condition, this may include gentle professional treatments, carefully selected peels where appropriate, targeted hydration and barrier-supportive treatments, alongside personalised skincare recommendations. Treatment is introduced gradually and adjusted according to how the skin responds. Highly reactive or inflamed skin may require a period of barrier repair before more active treatments are considered. Where symptoms are persistent, severe or suggest an underlying condition such as rosacea, eczema or dermatitis, medical assessment may be recommended.
